Deviled eggs are easily one of the most popular appetizers. And thanks to their low-carb status, they’ve recently been promoted as snacks and side dishes too! Besides their creamy texture, we were wondering if we could in any way improve on an already almost perfect bite. And then we realized, of course! By adding a variety of African Dream Foods sauces and seasonings. If you’ve been making your deviled eggs with plain mayo and mustard up until now, then it’s time for a change. We have five delicious recipes, just waiting to be tasted!

DIRECTIONS:

FOR THE SPICY DEVILED EGGS:
    1. To make the upscaling of these recipes easier, the instructions are given per egg (1 yolk which fills two halves). This means you can make one for yourself, or simply multiply the ingredients to make as many eggs as you want. (See our boiling instructions below).
    2. Use a sharp (non-serrated) knife to half the eggs. Carefully remove the egg yolks, and add to a small bowl. Use a fork (or the back of a spoon) to mash and smooth the egg yolks. You’re now ready to create any of the delicious fillings below! Add the ingredients and stir through, making sure that all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
    3. Each recipe is made with the yolk from 1 egg, and fills two halves.

NOTES:

  • You can use mayonnaise instead of plain yogurt if you prefer.
The ratios of hot sauce and yogurt to egg yolks, should produce a creamy (not overly liquid) filling. Some sauces are thicker, so you might need to add more yogurt (or sauce) to get a creamy filling. Be careful though, you can always add more liquid, but once it’s in, you cannot remove it!
  • To boil the eggs, and them to a pot and cover completely with cold water. Bring to a boil and continue cooking them for 9 minutes (medium eggs) to 13 minutes (for extra large eggs).
  • Older eggs usually peel easier, which means your eggs will end up better looking.
If you’re following a low-carb breakfast (or simply love to start your day with a bit of protein), then you can make a large batch of boiled eggs and store them in the fridge. Keep them in an airtight container for up to one week. Do not store them in the freezer!
  • You can make these ahead by keeping your peeled eggs in the refrigerator, and storing your filling in a separate airtight container. Pipe the filling into the eggs right before serving these spicy deviled eggs.
