This is fast, inexpensive and easy dish to make when camping or a making a backyard campfire. It can be customized with your own style, choice of garnishes and sides or in any way you like. These are just recommendations.

INGREDIENTS:

Ghost Pepper Salt

Vegetables (cucumber, olives, sweet peppers)

up to you

DIRECTIONS:
  1. After the camp fire burns out, (or in a section where the flames have died out) make a nest from the hot wood coals and ashes and bury the potatoes inside. Make sure to cover the potatoes fully with the coals so they will cook all the way through.
  2. Let the potatoes cook naturally inside the coals for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare some sides and garnishes for your plate.  I used a fresh cucumber, baby bell peppers and stuffed green olives.
  3. After about 20 minutes, uncover a potatoes with a stick or a shovel and place them in a bowl (you can poke or cut one open to make sure they finished baking).
  4. Peel the skin of the potato with your fingers and move to a plate where you prepared your sides and garnishes.
  5. Add a healthy slice of butter or drizzle with olive oil for taste. Sprinkle with Safari Smoke Seasoning and a bit of salt to taste. (I recommend our Ghost Pepper Salt to add that lingering spicy kick).
  6. Pour some Southern Braai Sauce (shown) or your favorite African Dream Foods Hot Sauce on your plate to dip and smother your potatoes in.  Enjoy with and iced coke or your favorite beverage.
This is an easy and inexpensive meal while camping or making a backyard campfire. You sprinkle the baked potatoes with a desired amount of Safari smoke seasoning for a natural smokey flavor, add a Ghost Pepper Salt, and Southern Braai BBQ Sauce or any of our other Sauces.
